According to reports, out of ten pregnant women nine of them suffer from stretch marks when they are pregnant. Although not only pregnant woman experience this problem, it can happen to any one at a certain point in their life. Either from intense activity such as body building and/or weight lifting or from being obese, no one is immune to this problem. A stretch mark is a medical disease known as striae gravidarum.

They resemble long and narrow mark on the skin and its color varies depending on your skin. For dark or brownish skin the marks will look lighter and for lighter skin it will look pinkish until it turns dark. Pregnant woman develops this problem often on their hips, thighs, breasts, buttocks and abdomen.

Some fallacy says that these problems occur when the skin is incapable of stretching, but how and when does it really occur? Although it is true that stretch marks happen when dermis layer of the skin is incapable of supporting growth, there is still more to it than that.

Our body goes through different stages in life and most of the time it is caused by innate nature, genetics and physical activities. When one reaches adulthood, they are more prone to skin problems like this. Also, those that gain and reduce weight rapidly are most likely to develop stretch marks. Basically our skin grows from time to time, either we grow tall or grow big the skin adjusts to our physiological needs. A hormone called collagen is produced in the dermis which is responsible for the elasticity of the skin. Skin tissues at some stage in our life stops producing new cells, that is why keeping it moisturized and elastic is very important.

During pregnancy, the more you are gaining weight the more likely you will have stretch marks. Reason being, although our skin is designed elastic extreme activities like when a woman is pregnant is way beyond our bodies scope. nbsp;Rapid growth and extreme changes cannot be address by our body instantly that is why most expert say that skin problems like this is inevitable.

So we know that at certain point it is quite impossible to prevent this problem from happening. Now what we need to learn is how to cure them.

There are different ways to cure or prevent this problem to occur. Treatments like stretch mark creams, stretch mark ointments and medical surgery are among the most effective solution known to man. Although at a certain degree, laser or medical surgery is by far the best method so far. But of course everything that comes with quality and speed has a price.

In the other hand, preventing stretch marks from taking place is not easy. Eating healthy foods, exercising and proper diet should be well maintained. Also, the quality of sleep or enough sleep can help in maintaining your healthy skin for as long as you do.
